Correct Technique: CTR-001 ft. Oxygen

I hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas time with nice presents, good food and of course a little bit of time to digg for new and upcoming record releases.

Todays blogpost is not just a listing of a new and limited 7inch release by SPOX Phd - it's also an appreciation for all the amazing work of my mate Oxygen (Ox The Architect, Jonzhaft, Just Divine).

SPOX PhD is a collaboration of Oxygen and DJ Spinna. Their debut releases on Correct Technique is a very limited 7"inch featuring the tracks "Brilliance" and "Four Times Raw" ft. Diamond D, Sadat X and Kurious. The 7" is also a teaser for the forthcoming album "Sound Pieces of X-Perience" (expected for Feb. 2012). Anyway the 7" should find the way into your crates not at least because the original version of "Brilliance" is exclusive to this 45rpm. Oh - and with a little bit of luck you're able to catch one of only a hand-full of test pressings Ox made available for the fans.

A: Brilliance (Original Version)
A: Brilliance (Instrumental)
B: Four Times Raw (Album Version)

In 2007 I got my hands on a 12" EP of Sputnik Brown that got released on High Water Music. The 12" featured three tracks, produced by Howard Lloyd and E The 5th plus Oxygen aka Jonzhaft on the Mic.

A: U Havin' Fun Yet?
A: The Brownout
A: Unadulterated
B: U Havin' Fun Yet? (Instrumental)
B: The Brownout (Instrumental)
B: Unadulterated (Instrumental)

In 2010 Oxygen released the 7inch "Gone Diggin". All details were posted on May, 22nd 2010. Additional to the vinyl release Oxygen shared about 25 copies of a 10-minute Scotch brand demo cassette tape. That rare promo cassette tape features the original unreleased demo version of the track "Gone Diggin" (with intro and outro), Howard Lloyd's "Throwbacks" (from the limited edition Quickie EP vinyl), and the unreleased Sputnik Brown track "Fluidity" featuring Wyld Bunch.

At the moment Oxygen offeres another 25 copies of a 30-minute Scotch brand demo cassette tape. That exclusive tape features a collection of original demo versions of songs from Long Island duo, Hype Sound Productions (MC Just Divine aka Oxygen & DJ Cut Wizard Albee). Plus early Jonzhaft The Psychopath demo tracks of original versions & unreleased material. Alternatively produced versions of "Idealism" and "Cum & Get It" appeared on independent 12" releases from the early 90's, and an edited vocal version of "Mastermind's In Effect" appeared on the B-side of the 45 "Gone Diggin" (released in 2010 on BBP/Big City Records).

All I can do is to recommend you a purchase of all those amazing releases. The easiest way is to purchase your favourite items at discogs. By purchasing from the seller "crateinvader" you'll receive this directly from the artist. Well and don't forget the upcoming Soundsci LP where Oxygen will be involved.

My special thanks goes out to Oxygen and the involved partners and record labels. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion only.

F5: F5-001 ft. EDO.G

Midnight in Germany but my man Sebastian woke me up. About 1 week ago I placed my order for the brand new and limited "Fastlane EP" from Boston's EDO.G. The single has two characteristics that make your purchase necessary.

At first Side-A features the vocal, instrumental and acapella versions of "Fastlane", an amazing dope track produced by mastermind DJ Premier. Secondly Side-B features four exclusive non-LP tracks, and they are all really dope!

A: Fastlane (Vocal)
A: Fastlane (Instrumental)
A: Fastlane (Acapella)
B: I Was There (Main)
B: Stop It (Main)
B: Righteous Way (Main)
B: Dummies (Remix)

The record comes in a sticker cover and is limited to 500 copies. This EP a teaser to the forthcoming album "Face In The Crowd" and the 20th anniversary of EDO.G's first album "Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto".

My special thanks goes out to HHV for selling me a special copy personally signed by EDO.G, and of course EDO.G himself for creating another super dope release. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Merry X-Mas 2 "Stitch By Stitch" Followers

What up fam! First of all I like to thank you all for more than 52.000 clicks and following nearly 100 contributions in 2011. Since day one the aim of "Stitch By Stitch" blogspot is to keep vinyl heads updated on forthcoming or brand new, mostly limited, hip-hop releases.

While we're at it I like to thank all the independent record labels for their incredible work and all supporters who motivate the lables to continue. Unfortunately not every record release can be posted on the blog due to the expenditure of time. Above you can find a little selection of releases I supported but didn't find the time to talk about.

Maybe there will be another one or two releases before the end of the year but I already like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I would be happy to keep you as a follower of the blogspot and please let me know your feedback or wishes when ever you like.

Peace out! mytee Thor

Holy Grails: "Madd" Versatile Records

Last autumn was something like the "rebirth" of producer Jay Funk from Baltimore. At first I got my hands on all releases of Norm Skola before my friends at Six 2 Six Records dropped the dead stock of S.C.U. for a handfull of $$$.

Not enough a few weeks after the S.C.U. another dead stock of 3 releases got distributed by Six 2 Six.

1. Syco - Madd Syco bw. Marked For Death ('94)
2. Madd Syco - Splittin' Wigz EP ('95)
3. Mr. Ruckuz - The Verdict EP ('98)

All records were produced by Jay Funk between 1994 and 1998 and are hard to find nowadays. Every track list is available over discogs so please check it out directly there. It saves a bit space for some snippets you might prefer ;)

My special thanks goes out to Six 2 Six Records and Jay Funk for sharing the signed copies. All copyrights reserved, posted for promo only.

BQ In Full Effect was a project of various artists in the year of 1988, directed by Aaran Dee (R.I.P.). In collaboration with Percee P, C-Nice, D-Nique and the Live Squad one of the best EPs of the 80s was born.

My special thanks goes out to Percee P for the latest conversation, Aaron Dee (RIP) and Thirsty Dragon for giving this awesome record to my crates. All copyrights reserved by their owners, posted for promo only.

Holy Grails: FTR-881 ft. Phase And Rhythm

Well, you already know that I am posting records from time 2 time under the column "Holy Grails". But I don't want to get missunderstand: this is no poser shit, it is just a homage to records I really feel and where I spent a lot of time to get this for a reasonable price. Of course "reasonable" is a subjective definition ...

Anyway "Phase And Rhythm - Hyperactive bw Brainfood" has been posted on several blogs and forums nearly a thousand times and the reason is simple and easy: this record has probably the dopest beats Mister PAUL C ever mixed. The insanity varifiably started back in 2006 when the record got sold for more than 1.000 $ to a collector (check popsike history). Until today the record goes for crazy prices, the last but sealed copy sold for 700 $ in August 2011.

While the style of hip-hop is still a matter of taste this record is somethin' for every 80s and 90s hip-hop fan. Although "Phase And Rhythm" released another record on Tommy Boy Records but this is the one everybody is talking about.

A: Hyperactive (Vocal)
A: Hyperactive (Dub)
A: Hyperactive (Hype-apella)

B: Brainfood (Vocal)

B: Brainfood (Dub)

Year: 1988
Producer: D. Rosser, J. Jasmin, K. Jarvis
Mixed By: Paul C

My special thanks goes out to Phase, Rhythm and Paul C. All copyrights reserved, posted for promo only.

Chopped Herring: CHQU33NS02 ft. Mayhem Lauren

Whenever cats talk about the recent resurgence and re-establishment of NYC Hip Hop, the name Meyhem Lauren is never left out. Hailin' from the borough of Queens, this die hard Lo-Life vet made his first MC appearance on J-Love's (Ghostface's long-serving tour DJ) "King of What I Do Part 6" 2004 mixtape. Most of you Herring cats will need little introduction to Mey, but for those that don't know (the shame!), he featured on last summer's Chopped Herring Records release 'Welcome to the Great Outdoors EP' alongside his homeboys Action Bronson and Shaz Illyork. That was the first and only vinyl release from those Queens' natives and this limited edition EP is the second.

Meyhem Lauren currently features on the Action Bronson and Statik Selektah album 'Well Done' and has a full length album in the pipeline with said Action Bronson and an album droppin in 2012 produced by legendary DITC producer Buckwild.

Slice Of Spice: SSR-FLEX1 ft. Lord Finesse

Well, it is an open secret that Slice Of Spice Records is hardly working on forthcoming releases featuring D.I.T.C.s own Lord Finesse.

Beside a super special "Funky Technician Instrumentals" project there seems to be a lot of heat in the SOS kitchen.

On a side note, if you are a hugh Lord Finesse fan please also check out the latest CD release "The Grind And Hustle".

For New Yorks WFMU record fair Slice Of Spice in cooperation with Underboss pressed an exclusive give away Flexi-Disc featuring the previously unreleased "You Know What I'm About Remix". While most of the non US hardcore diggers figured out how to get their hands on the disc Slice Of Spice had a plan. All the supporters of the limited Signature Seven Series will receive a free copy with the last shipping. All I can say is "Thank You" to Richard for not lettin' us down.

My special thanks goes out to SOS and Lord Finesse. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use  only. only.

Jamille: JML-xxx ft. Various Artists

I got in contact with Jamille Records right over the Stitch By Stitch blogspot. Due to the fact that the label represents pure 80s and early 90s hip-hop and that the selection of music is real dope, Stitch By Stitch proudly presents a little story about the label and their releases. Founded around 2009 by Darrell Dixon. The label is specialized in rare and lost old school rap mostly from Milwaukees independent scene. Milwaukee is the home town of Darrell D, how was an active hip-hop artist within his crew "PRIME TIME" back in the 80s. So far Jamille Records re-released some rare an out-of-print hip-hop aside some never releases music. In 2011 the discography shows nearly 8 publishments which are all available in a more or less limited quantity.Accordingly we want to give every release a short attention:

Chopped Herring: CHH3NCH01 ft. Da Henchmen

I can not believe it has finally been realised and I can not thank Bob enuff! Chopped Herring Records proudly presents "Da Henchmen - The Ill Cyde Vaults".

Da Henchmen founded by B-Boy, producer and joint label owner of Ill Cyde Recs "The Tic" aka "Nes" and his partner James Morgan aka Real, Brooklynite and brother of Saturday Night Live stand-up comedian Tracy Morgan. Da Henchmen were made up of a bunch of different MC's hailing from all corners of NYC. They appeared around 1993 and 1994 as support act in NYC club venues for the likes of Doug E fresh, King Sun and Frankie Cutlass among others. They released an extended EP called 'Beware: Lyricly Dangerous' and a 12" 'Watcha Gonna Do' in 1994 both on Ill Cyde Records, which was set up solely to push the group. Contrary to mythology, there was no third single but there was a different crew from NYC called Da Henchmen! Another overlooked fact was that two of the members, Ray Boogie and True Da Grynch (aka The Evil Twins) featured on Frankie Cutlass' huge Hip Hop club hit 'Puerto Rico' where they shout out Da Henchmen in their rhymes.

Musically, we have picked 3 previously released (though incredibly hard to find) joints from the 2 records released on Ill Cyde and we have been lucky enough to have chosen 3 more unreleased bombs from the vaults of Tic. 'Brooklyn Bastards' is from the 1993 'Beware: Lyricly Dangerous' sessions. 'Basket Case', an homage to b-ball and it's comparison to the art of rhyming, was recorded around the time of the 2nd single in 1994 and 'I want it All' was recorded by Frado (the Beat Man) in 1995 right at the end of the group's short lifespan. [source]

A1 What U Gonna Do? ft. Mental Flex, Brick The Juggernaut, Garders, Big Jam & True Da Grynch
A2 Brooklyn Bastards ft. Naughty Shorty, A-Minner & Wild Juvenile
A3 Live Wire ft. A-Minner, Naughty Shorty & Wild Juvenile

B1 Come On ft. Big Jam
B2 Basket Case ft. True Da Grynch & Murda One
B3 I Want It All ft. Brick The Juggernaut & Garders

Produced by Ticnology and Frado.
Recorded between 1993 and 1995 at Projam Studios & Data Base Studios

The first 75 records will be pressed on orange vinyl, the next 75 records on purple vinyl, another 150 copies on standard black wax. So here we are with another limited release of 300 copies, not to be repressed.

My very extra special thanks goes out to Bob at Chopped Herring Records and Da Henchmen for finally make all the heat available "again". All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Groogy Pack: GPE-002 ft. Doppelgangaz

Most of us know the situation. You are looking for some new store entries and what you find is a dope album but, it's a CD only release. If this happens I always ask myself, if this will get a vinyl treatment, do I need to invest in a CD release while I am a vinyl nerd or can I disclaim? I hate it and my last situation like that happend when Fat Beats released Bumpy Knuckles - Crazy Like A Foxxx (2CD).

The Doppelgangaz is a duo from NYC founded by Matter of Fact (MC) and EP (MC/Producer). In January 2011 Groogy Pack Entertainment released the album "Lone Sharks" on CD. With a special encouragement of www.hhv.de the album is now available on 2LP with full picture cover. But it's no time to relax because the vinyl edition is limited to a number of 500 copies and it's moving fast. The album contains all 15 CD album tracks plus one Interlude.

A1: Happy Face
A2: Nexium
A3: Get Em
A4: Doppel Gospel
B1: Dumpster Diving
B2: The Gods

Chopped Herring: CHGRIMM01 ft. Grimm Teachaz

High Speed! Chopped Herring Records with the next installment. Two days ago I received the amazing dope Natural Elements EP on golden colored wax and POW ... NEXT!

With the same dominance that he ran the ball courts of the NBA in the 1990's and with a similar abuse of power that brought about an unlikely record deal as an 'MC' with Jive Records, the re-writing of Golden Era Hip Hop was callously exercised by ball-bouncing giant Shaquille O'Neal to the detriment of our art form’s greatest never-was group, Tha Grimm Teachaz.

It was nothing short of a miracle when the original masters were excavated in 2010 by KDz' younger brother, the unfortunately named Tanya. While digging through the family storage unit in search of scraps of sustinance (this recession is a killer) he happened upon a decaying, almost entirely rotten cardboard box full of Tha Grimm Teachaz’ memorabilia, which contained the dead sea scrolls, if you will, of Hip Hop's greatest ever losers - the 1993 masters of their never-released long player 'There's a Situation on the Home Front'.

Chopped Herring Records' Pro Celebrity Golf was so ‘touched’ by this saddening and at the same time rapturous story that he personally contacted Tha Teachaz proclaiming a heartfelt desire to help with their sorry plight. We are now ecstatic to be able to announce that we will indeed be releasing these previously lost Hip Hop artefacts on vinyl for the very first time. This humongously dope six track EP includes what would've been the lead single and sure fire BET hit 'I Getz', which features none other than Funkdoobiest MC Son Doobie in his marijuana-doused prime, as well as five other boomin’ joints for your noggin.

Tha Grimm Teachaz - There's a Situation on the Homefront EP

A1 Grimm Sayvas feat. MC-17
A2 I getz feat. Son Doobie
A3 Melissa
B1 Poobutts feat. MC-17
B2 Whatchagonnado
B3 Grimm Teachin

The record is limited to 350 copies, first 75 copies on clean wax, next 75 records on green wax and the rest of 200 copies on standard black wax. Get your order in before it's too late again. Follow the paypal link on www.choppedherringrecords.com.

White Label Promo: Chart Moves ft. Blade

Blade was born in Iran, raised in London, B-Boy and Graffiti artists under the name Electron, one of UKs most respected Britcore artists and he successfully teamed up with producer Mark B to release hardcore hip-hop for ya earz.

For a long time the "Lyrical Maniac EP" applied to be Blade's debut release, printed on 691 Influential back in 1989. With a limited press of 300 copies Blade tried to sell his EP to the crowd but it failed so he decided to complain the records and kept only 10 copies for himself and some friends. Later (1992) the record got thankfully re-released.

Recently some heads unearthed the lost 12inch single "Chart Moves" which is Blade's essentially debut release. Printed in 1988 the single contains 4 versions of the track "Chart Moves" which were produced by Mastermix. At the board "Heroes Of UK Hip Hop" Blade shared a little bit of history about that record ... anyway ... with the rumour that less than 100 copies are in existence this will become a holy grail status. All copies were pressed on transparent orange coloured wax.

"Chart Moves was a monopoly style of board game that my manager at the time had come up with the idea / concept of. I have to say, it was a pretty good concept even though I never played the game but knew the rules for and it was quite clever how it all worked, the idea being to educate people on how the music industry works. As a favour to my manager, I did the music for the game which was a limited edition vinyl which was to be given away with the game. I basically had to put the rules of the game into a rap and the track was produced by Mastermix. Not as hard hitting as some of my other earlier stuff for obvious reasons, and if truth be told, not really my idea of music that defined me .... just something I always saw as doing my manager a favour.

After I walked away from my agreement  with my manager for him basically using all our record label meetings as an excuse to sell his product rather than my music, I played a little difficult and pushed for the record to be omitted from the game, which it was, but gave permission for whoever else was to do the remake of it to use the lyrics I wrote for it without ever asking for any royalities in return. The girl they got in to do the track after my exit used pretty much 80% of what I wrote and I left it as that and never pursued for any royalities but just left that scenario completely out of my life from there on. I don't have a copy of the vinyl as I was never given one and never asked for one ...... two tracks - a side / b side" [source]

A1: Chart Moves (Basics)
A2: Chart Moves (The Rules)
B1: Chart Moves (The Rules Extended Club Mix)
B2: Chart Moves (Instrumental)

Slice Of Spice: SSR-006 ft. Grap Luva & Damu

This is simply unbelievable. With a speed I have rarely seen Slice Of Spice Records has the next release in the pipeline. Next is a 12inch release of Grap Luva ft. Damu The Fudgemunk called the "NEVA DONE EP".

REDEF already indicated that Grap Luva was working on an EP, and everything is now ready to go on this mix of old and new music. Side A will have two recent tracks that never received a vinyl release with instrumentals included. The flip sees Grap dust down his SP-1200 and select a grip of his beatstrumentals!

Damu The Fudgemunk is featured all over this quality release as he can be found on the cuts and boards laying down that signature sound.

Pre-Orders are live at www.nevadone.bigcartel.com.. The EP is available in different versions. First of all we have the "standard" 140 gr. black vinyl edition with a nice grey SP-1200 sticker on cover (400 copies available). Slice Of Spice: SSR-005(.5) ft. K-Def & LL Cool J

SSR-005: K-Def ft. LL Cool J - YEAR OF THE HIP HOP 10" (Preview)

Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used. The DAT tape of the studio session was feared lost for several years before it eventually turned up stuck behind a radiator! Now, 17 years later, K-Def and Slice-of-Spice are proud to present ‘Year Of The Hip Hop’ in all its vinyl glory.

Slice-of-Spice has teamed up with K-Def and Ghetto Man Music to finally release the almost mythical LL Cool J joint 'Year Of The Hip Hop' on vinyl. After several failed attempts to get this unreleased gemm on vinyl, over different formats and with different track listings, Slice Of Spice makes things happen.

Get ready for blast off as they drop an incredible limited edition 10" of this fully restored, and beast of a track. It's been remastered by K-Def off the original DAT tape, and is ready for vinyl, with a vocal A-side and TV track Instrumental on the flip side.

Once again Joe Buck will be blessing y'all with another of his incredible works of art for the cover. As always there will be no expense spared on making the total package a true thing of beauty, so stay tuned for further details around the 10th / 11th of September. Limited to 500 copies, only 150 on orange coloured wax.

And here's something for the real collectors out there!
While checking out a new pressing plant and a different plating process (DMM) for our Signature Sevens series, SOS had a small batch of test pressings made-up of 'Year Of The Hip Hop'. Twenty copies were pressed in total. Never to be released in this format, All copies are hand stamped and numbered. 10 copies have been distributed to those involved in the project, and the other 10 are up for grabs.

My special thanks goes to Richard at Slice Of Spice. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion only.
