Dope Folks: DF-0004 ft. Rock La Flow

With an unbelievable tempo Dope Folks Records informs the hip-hop world about upcoming releases. From my point of view they are all pure fijaah. Rephlex: CAT208LP ft. The Criminal Minds (TCM)

There were several rumours around a TCM re-release of their most sought after EPs so here we go with a very small intelligence for all fans of UK Britcore Rap. From one of the most trustfull sources I got confirmation that there will be a special re-release of most songs from "Guilty As Charged" and "Tales Of The Wasteland" on 2LP plus a 2CD release ft. unreleased gems including their very first track 'TCM - The Name Of The Posse'.

SNIPPETS & PRE-ORDER

- WIDOWMAKER
- URBAN WARFARE
- SYSTEMS OVERLOAD REMIX
- JUST CHECK IT
- ILLEGAL PROCEDURE
- POLICE STATE
- WEAPON OF CHOICE (HALO'S MIND MIX)
- SECTION 12 PARAGRAPH ZERO
- SYSTEMS OVERLOAD (ORIG. 12")

The 2LP comes in a navy green coloured jacket with sticker in above posted design. Sticker tells you it's a limited DJ Test Pressing, the record labels are clean white what means you have to find out the final tracklist yourself. The sides are called T / C and M, the fourth side is virgin which is sad because I would like to have 'TCM - The Name Of The Posse" plus Instro on that one. Anyway ...

my special thanks goes out to DJ Halo for cooporating with Rephlex and sharing all those information with me over the last couple of months. Release posted for promotion only, all copyrights reserved by artists and label.

In 2007 Damu and Insight released their project LP "Travel At Your Own Pace" under the collabo name "Y Society". Now Damu comes with his full length album "Supply For Demand". Additional to the LP Redefinition Records offers a great package including a limited 7'inch on clear vinyl.

Threshold: Asphalt Poetry - Harmagedion EP

Asphalt Poetry (Coolie Bee & EJ) had their debut EP in 1993 with the awesame Harmagedion EP engineered by KutMasta Kurt. Asphalt Records pressed only 200 copies of that EP back then so the demand of that EP is still pretty high. If you don't believe me, check out the latest sales prices for over 500 $.

However KutMasta Kurt and his label Threshold Recordings have finally decided to make this record available for another limited number of fans. From what I've heard the re-release is again limited to 200 numbered copies and comes in a dope picture cover too with the same track list like the original press. Now you might ask yourself how to get your hands on this and I just have this link for all ya because it seems this is a Japan / Diskunion exclusive. Also check Threshold's Discogs Store.

A1: Harmagedion
A2: Instrumentally Retarded
B1: Lyrical Decay

No Sleep: NSREP-003 ft. Buckwild

God damn, another No Sleep vinyl release!! Instead of a pre-review I leave you alone with the words of my man James/DL who sent a nice story of DAT's diggin'.

"In preparing to start Celph Titled’s album, No Sleep spent 3 days at Buckwild’s studio pulling up discs, listening to tracks, and mapping out the project. It was quite the experience in finding and hearing the original SP-1200 disks of classics like “Masta I.C.”, “Put It On”, etc, as well as stuff that was never pressed with instrumentals, like “What I Represent”, and “Blowing Up In The World”. It was truly special to base Celph’s project on beats from that same time period as those songs. Amazingly enough, No Sleep also found three more DAT tapes in his stash. On these DATs were about 10 submission remixes that Buckwild had made during the busiest period of his early career. A couple of which you eventually heard on Buck’s original remix EP, but several others that were completely new. While Buckwild and No Sleep have talked since about doing a following up to that 2CD, we did not have enough material to fill it out. Putting it out as a limited EP was another option, but since there were only 5 songs (remixes only) that had final mixes, we held off. As Celph’s project was finally completed over the next two years, we realized that we would have a few leftover tracks from that as well. We also wanted to somehow put Celph’s posse track featuring D.I.T.C. and Brand Nubian on vinyl also. So hear it is; a mixture of the old and new."

A1: There Will Be Blood” ft. Sadat X, Grand Puba, A.G., O.C., Diamond D
A2: There Will Be Blood” Remix ft. Sadat X, Grand Puba, A.G., O.C., Diamond D
A3: Nothin’ To Say ft. Rise
A4: The Celph Titled Show
B1: Fast Life Remix ft. Kool G Rap & Nas
B2: We Run Things Remix ft. Da Bush Babees
B3: The Next Level Remix The Alkaholiks, Diamond D
B4: Beware Of The Rampsack Remix ft. Rampage
B5: Represent Remix ft. Grand Daddy I.U.

Waxpoetics: Converse 45 Series ft. Canibus

I remember the year 1998 when Canibus released his smash hit Second Round K.O. and the debut album CAN-I-BUS. About 2 years later the second album dropped but there were also some rumours around Canibus will be in the studio with the one-and-only DJ Premier. 10 years later...

With issue # 41 all subscribers of the magazine WAXPOETICS got one 7inch (45 tours) of Canibus - Golden Terra Of Rap in the course of the "Converse 45 Series". If you got no 7" - no problem - Golden Terra Of Rap is now officially available as a vinyl 12" on Independent Media [source].

Dope Folks: DF-0003 ft. Ruthless Rod

I first heard about the EP from my man Thirsty Dragon, PEACE BROH!!! To be honest again I am very excited about a forthcoming re-release of that EP on Dope Folks Records. So here it is, a 4 track EP in a full coloured picture cover (like the OG) limited to 300 un-numbered copies.

PH Music: PSPH-0703 ft. Alternate Reality

Cadence, member of the group "Raw Produce" released a couple of fantastic records over the last 10 years. Beside the very sought after "Refrigerator Poetry EP" he also had a collaboration 7" with my friends from Diggers With Gratitude to name only two of them. Please check the conception of Cadence's brand new project:

"Dumi RIGHT was introduced to audiences in the early 90's as a member of Zimbabwe Legit, the pioneering crew widely regarded as the first African hip hop group to gain international recognition. At the same time, Cadence was making a name for himself as an MC, DJ and producer; as one half of the highly respected indie hip hop duo Raw Produce, and then later as a solo artist. Their paths converged on a number of occasions over the course of the last decade, with collaborations on various projects that most notably include: Zimbabwe Legit - House of Stone, Cadence - Creative Commerce and O.U.O - of unknown origin.

Now Dumi RIGHT and Cadence have joined forces as "Alternate Reality" and are proud to present Legitimate Raw - a limited edition vinyl EP (only 300 hand-numbered copies), which introduces listeners to the group, while also providing several exclusive songs and remixes from their respective catalogs.

Legitimate Raw finds Cadence and Dumi RIGHT serving up insightful and incisive lyrics, coupled with richly textured beats to deliver their unique brand of artistry to the masses. The release features production work by Cadence, Saint and Lord Lamont (Khz Productions), and guest appearances by hip hop luminaries YZ, Chubb Rock and Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), as well as underground favorites C Rayz Walz, Breez Evahflowin' and Vast Aire." For Promotion Only ft. AJ Da Griot & Poison Ladd S.L.R

With the encouragement of Poison Ladd S.L.R. the Stitch By Stitch Blogspot likes to introduce MCee "AJ Da Griot".

"AJ Da Griot" hails from the republic of Togo, West Africa. He is an accomplished lyricist and song writer. Lyrically Da Griot’s delivery is graphically expressive and brutally honest as he lyrically depicts the sights and sounds of the urban American landscape. Amah Adjavon aka Da Griot developed his own style and approach to the art of Hip hop.

As a Togolese citizen born in Togo West-Africa, Amah Adjavon was forced to leave his homeland during political troubles, seeking refugee from the turmoil in his country. He was forced to move with his family to New York city, then relocated to DC, in some of Washington's roughest neighborhoods. Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. military and was sent to Afghanistan after 911, then Iraq a year later.

As a result of his turbulent life experiences "AJ Da Griot" has seen enough in such a short period of time to stimulate his lyrical skill. Based on African custom and tradition Da Griot is the real origin of hip hop, just as drums find their origin from the motherland. Da Griot was the walking CNN, going from village to village, tribe to tribe to deliver the messages to the people. In 2006 keeping in the rich tradition of his native land "AJ Da Griot" worked with Poison ladd S.L.R. & Beats In General to deliver two riveting performances for the sample based "Gutta Logic EP" [words by Poison Ladd S.L.R.]

Here is a small sample of AJ Da Griot music from the late 90s / early 00s.

1. AJ Da Griot - The Godfather (produced by Poison Ladd S.L.R.)
2. AJ Da Griot - I Got My Swagger Back (produced by Poison Ladd S.L.R.)
3. AJ Da Griot - Refugee (produced by Poison Ladd S.L.R.)

To support "AJ Da Griot" please check out his myspace page. For full tracks please leave some words in the comment section.

Thanks for your interest, mytee DJ thor and Poison Ladd S.L.R.

No Sleep: NSREP-002 ft. O.C.

No Sleep presents the pre Wild Pitch demos of D.I.T.C. member O.C. Listen to the words of my man DL from No Sleep Recordings and support this amazing limited release. Once again: ONLY 200 COPIES MADE!!!

After debuting on Organized Konfusion's "Fudge Pudge" single, O.C. started traveling with O.K. when they did shows. It was on The Source Magazine College tour in 1993 when O.C. first met Buckwild, who was deejaying for fellow tour act Lord Finesse at the time. A creative union was formed and when O.C. was signed to MC Serch's Serchlite production company, they started working on a demo...

No Sleep Recordings is proud to present tracks off of that demo; six previously unreleased songs and a rare promo that was done for legendary NYC radio personalities, Stretch and Bobbito. Buckwild himself produced three of these tracks and there is also production from Mark Pearson and DJ Eclipse (from Non-Phixion fame). Having been archived by DJ Eclipse for all these years, it is truly remarkable to unearth these lost treasures. It is also from these early sessions that the Hip-Hop classic "Word Life" originated.

A1: Outsiders (produced by Buckwild)
A2: Would You Believe? (produced by Buckwild)
A3: Kick A Rhyme For The Record (produced by Mark Pearson)
A4: Stretch & Bobbito Promo (Intro by MC Serch, produced by Eclipse)

B1: Brothers Are Fake (produced by Mark Pearson)
B2: That Bad Motherfucker (produced by Eclipse)
B3: Sugar (produced by Buckwild)

All tracks recorded in 1993. Limited to 200 copies worldwide in a nice sticker cover.

My special thanks goes out to the D.I.T.C. fam and DL of No Sleep Recordings. All copyrights reserved by artist and label.

Chopped Herring: CHPP001 ft. Prince Paul

Producer Prince Paul was a part of legendary Hip-Hop crews like Stetsasonic, De La Soul and The Gravediggaz. Also with his solo project Handsome Boy Modelling School he demonstrated what the word "Skillz" means.

As always Chopped Herring Records has some history to this awesome release. "The 'Horror City' project was recorded in 1995 just after Paul's work on the Gravediggaz debut album, with a crew of local mc's from the Amityville neighbourhood of Long Island, known under the collective banner 'Horror City Productions'. H.C.P was the brainchild of LI rapper Superstar aka Roy Hamilton. They released a 12" back in 1986 called 'Clap Yo Hands' on their own label, then worked on a project with De La Soul's Maseo in 1994. The latter was 'nearly' signed to Tommy Boy, and that is the story of Horror City. From Russell Simmons' cash advances to De La Soul hook ups, the MC's never quite made it big, something always got in the way. They guested on Paul's excellent 1998 album A Prince Among Thieves and some of the 'Horror City '95' session tracks appeared in a different form on that album. Prince Paul, for some unfathomable reason, couldn't get the project signed in '95 and it sat in his studio, collecting dust for the next decade and a half.

15 years after the session was recorded Chopped Herring Records has gained access to the masters and is releasing a very limited mini Vinyl EP which includes 4 previously unreleased tracks and 2 instrumentals.

A1: Take It How You Want It feat. Ryme Valore, B"stro & Resadoo
A2: Big Sha feat. Big Sha
A3: Take It How You Want It (instrumental)

B1: Big Sha (instrumental)
B2: Tattles Tale feat. Superstar,Ooh & Shells Plus
B3: Headbounty feat Superstar,Deacon Jones,B"stro & Resadoo

Diggers With Gratitude: DWG-009 ft. Tragedy

Surprise, Surprise. Shortly after DWG announced their latest 7" release here is the next heavy hitter!!!

QB primary rock Tragedy aka The Intelligent Hoodlum releases the "Black Rage Demos" on Diggers With Gratitude. Three previously unreleased tracks from Tragedy's 25 To Live imprint. Check out the words of DWG head RareDave:

"Many of you will have heard the original versions of "Death Row" and "At Large" - well, the opportunity arose for us to get involved in a 25 To Life approved pressing of these tracks, plus the previously unheard demo of "Pump The Funk". These original versions were due to appear on Trag's unreleased/controversial 2nd album "Black Rage" (1992), but A&M Records got cold balls and decided to change the title to "Saga Of A Hoodlum"(1993) change the tracklist and remix some of the tracks (we have put the 3 previously available album 'remixes' on the flip). The "Black Rage Demos" are sought after (previously only available as crusty dubs from Westwood's Capital Rap Show) and production wise are closer to Trag's earlier work, the depressing original mix of "Death Row" is genius and the venomous production of the original "At Large" is nothing short of amazing - Trag holds no bars. The original "Pump The Funk" (this was originally named "Shit For Your System") is totally different to the final version with a stripped back beat for the jeeps."

The EP is limited to 250 copies while the first 75 orders get a marbled red vinyl and a sleeve signed by Tragedy himself.

A1: Death Row OG Version
A2: At Large OG Version
A3: Pump The Funk OG Version

B1: Death Row Album Version
B2: At Large Album Version

No Sleep: NSR2LP-001 ft. Nick Wiz

Once again my man DL is back on da scene and presents Nick Wiz - Cellar Selections Vol. 1. Here is a part of DL's annoucement:

"Nick Wiz has been a Hip-Hop mainstay since his teenage years. Having first impacted the early 90's scene with his beat contributions to Ecko Unlimited Underground Airplay cassette series; Nick's sound was a considerable part of the early Lyricist Lounge movement. This continued into working with Lounge alum, The Cella Dwellas, as well as the likes of Rakim, Chubb Rock, Mad Skillz, Channel Live and countless others. Producing in his own studio, appropriately named The Cellar, his sound was a unique fusion of filters, horns, smacking SP-1200 drums and dense bass-lines. With round the clock recording sessions, Nick's studio was constantly flooded with both Hip-Hop's elite talent and the best of the underground scene as well. While a lot of the material produced and recorded by him found its way to full-length CD releases, countless other tracks were unreleased; only heard on underground radio shows and rare demos. This release focuses mostly on the mid-90s demos from the first 2CD, specifically the highly sought after Lyricist Lounge Underground Airplay tracks and the rare Stretch and Bobbito demos that have never been on vinyl. This release is the first of two Cellar Selections 2LPs, as the second will be released in early 2011 and will mostly feature tracks from Cellar Sounds Vol. 2" with a few leftovers from Vol. 1.

SNIPPET RECORD 1
SNIPPET RECORD 2

Limiited to 250 copies No Sleep follows the asking of record collectors to release the Nick Wiz CD release on vinyl. The record sold out in not time so if you're interested in Vol. 2 you better be on the look out.

My special thanks goes out to Nick, DL and No Sleep Recordings. All rights reserved by the label.

Solid Ground: MC Googly, Poison Ladd and Beats In General

Poison Ladd S.L.R. and Beats In General come around with their next Solid Ground installments.

The double release will feature MC Googley's "The Ghetto Soldiers EP" (96) and Poison Ladd S.L.R. & Beats In General featuring Black Pussy bw. Red Wagon (92/93).

Mc Googly aka William Daniels ("The Public Enemy Of Philly") born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. (North Philly) in 1967, moved to the logan section of Philadelphia in 1980, where he first witnessed hip hop at its finest. We’re talking 2 Turntables and a microphone. Well known Dj’s like Disco Rat, Disco Poo Sex Machine, would be off the hook with performances, with rappers, and rap groups. His study of the rap game had him rapping at the early age of 13 sounding just as good as the older rappers. In 1983 he met Ronald Potts known then as Mc Rockwell aka Poison Ladd at Olney Highschool in Philadelphia where the challenge each other to take there skills to the next level. Shortly after, they met Wayne Rhoads know then as Big which they later named Extortionist B aka Beats In General and they formed a group "Boys Of Doom" they produced a sound that still today is ringing in the public ear. They were considered one of the hottest groups in philly at that time, but still no shine in 1984. In 1987 the Boys Of Doom had to part due to Mc Googly’s incarceration which he did a 2 year sentence. His incarceration helped him perfect his rap skills, Mc Googly returned to the group B.O.D. in 1989 and recorded several solo songs but violated his parole and returned right back to prison until 1992. By then B.O.D. was no more, and Ronald Potts, & Wayne Rhoads became Poison Ladd S.L.R. – Beats In General., so Mc Googly moved on as a solo artist recording various hip hop songs throughout the 90’s. We hope you enjoy the many lost treasures of Mc Googly, One of the illest Mc’s of philly. The record is limited to 300 copies.

Mastering Studios: Check The Run-Out Grooves

Most record collectors regularly check the run-out groove on records to see if the records is "possibliy" the original press or a current re-release respectively a bootleg. Beside a catalogue number the record shows often a "STAMP" or "SIGNATURE" etched in the dead wax / run-out.

An outrider to contribute information about run-outs of hip-hop records is "Dig-It-Out". Please check it out! Also check in here!

MASTERDISK

Masterdisk has been in business since 1973, mastering vinyl, CDs and high-resolution digital formats for many of the world's greatest artists. Have you considered joining the recent vinyl revival? Masterdisk is one of only a few companies worldwide that has been continuously making masters for vinyl. We have more experience cutting masters than nearly any other facility. Before digital, vinyl record mastering was Masterdisk's sole business, and we were at the top of the heap. Producers would fly to New York from England on the Concord Jet just to have their records mastered at Masterdisk. We are very proud of that heritage and master vinyl records with great attention to detail. [source: www.masterdisk.com]

SPECIALTY

Specialty Records Corporation was founded in 1946. Warner Bros. Records took over in 1978, but kept the Specialty name up until 1996, when they changed it to WEA Mfg. Vinyl production was discontinued January 01 2002, to clear floorspace for their rising DVD production.

Specialty pressed some singles and promos in the early nineties. They etched a stamped SRC logo into the lacquers they received. It does not appear that they had an in-house mastering studio, lots of releases they pressed were cut by MASTERDISK. [source]

Liberty Grooves: From Past 2 Present

As promised in my last post here is a little overview on previous "Liberty Grooves" releases. Liberty Grooves was a record shop and label based in South London. The debut single "An Original Break" by Solid 'N' Mind (Rapper Whirlwind D, Producer Johnny F and Beatboxer MSD) was release in 1990 followed by LIB002 ft. True Style.

In 1994 Liberty Grooves released the legendary Gutter Snypes EP "The Trials Of Life" in different versions and different coloured vinyls. Make your own decision what cat-no. you like but you better buy the whole collection! (peace 2 Sigher)

The biggest story and one of the rarest and most thought after records is cat.-no LIB009. I just say Akinyele ft. Kool G Rap - Break A Bitch Neck. Check out the best review from my friends of DWG, nuff said!

In 2009 Liberty Grooves gave their comeback with a limited edition (250 copies) release of "Solid 'N' Mind - Centre Stage bw. Woke With Nothin". Both tracks were recorded in 1991 and released on cassette only before they got pressed on vinyl. The cat.-no. LIB21/2.

Their latest installement please check here.

My special thanks goes out to Dudley and Johnny F. All copyrights by Liberty Grooves.
