Smoke On: SOR-1009 ft. Buckwild

In 2007 Ground Floor Records released Buckwild's "Rare Studio Masters: 1993 - 1997"  compilation on 2CD, just on the wrong format.

The premium producer album features many famous but also some independent songs produced and remixed by D.I.T.C. member Buckwild. The list of MCs Buckwild worked with is long and to get those 39 tracks it needs a few more LPs.

Smoke On Records fulfills the strong demand and presses the album on gold colored 4LP housed in full color picture sleeve.

Growing up in the late '80s, Superior entered the Hip-Hop scene as B-Boy, addicted by Funk and Soul as well as classic rap acts like Public Enemy and N.W.A. or beat makers like Pete Rock and DJ Premier.

CoRecords / Lynx: CSR-9985 ft. Mr. Complex

Mr. Complex, part of the group Polyrhythm Addicts, is a veteran MC from NYC. Since his debut EP " Feel Me I'm Rhymin' Against The Grain" in 1995 he dropped a lot of classics including my favorite "Visualize".

Unbelievable but this record is his first in 7" format and features “I’m Ready” featuring Dres, from Black Sheep and El Fudge from the Rawkus era.

Both tracks are produced by MORTAL 1 who is pretty new to the business. Mr. Complex &  Mortal 1 recorded a whole album "FOREVER NEW" that is due late spring. This 7" is a limited pressing of 300 copies.

A: I'm Ready ft. Dres & El Fudge

Self-Released: ft. Rendrz & SheaButter

This is just a quick introduction to a 7" I came across recently while diggin' through bandcamp's hip-hop releases.

Australian producer Rendrz collaborates with MC SheaButter for two tracks pressed on a white label 7inch housed in a stickered sleeve.

The first run was limited to 20 copies and unfortunately was sold out when I came across this dope record. However after contacting Rendrz he put me on the list for the 2nd run of another 20 copies and gave me a shout when it got online - thanks mate!

I cannot guarantee there are still copies when you check Rendrz bandcamp via the link below but who knows what happens with popular demand? Post a comment and if the list is long enough ... ???

A: Above Average
B: Outta Joint

My extra special thanks goes to Rendrz and SheaButter. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Dope Folks: DF-0083 ft. MC Destruction

The "Blow Of Death EP" is release #83 on Dope Folks Records. The EP features MC Destruction from the Black Wax Posse. What I know about this MC is basically nothing else than that his 90's release is a typical "random rap" classic rarely seen for sale and if pretty high priced.

In the year 1990 Black Wax Records released a split 12" EP with MC Destruction on the A-side and Corey Pee on the flip, all tracks produced by Marc Niles who later produced for MCs like R.A. The Rugged Man [C#nt Renaissance (uncredited)].

A: Blow Of Death
A: Maria
B: Murderin' MC's
B: Comin' Off

The "Blow Of Death EP" is limited to 300 copies, 50 copies are colored wax.

My special thanks goes to MC Destruction, Marc Niles and Dope Folks Records. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Menteroja / Vinyl-Digital: Various ft. Mentoroja & AK420

Menteroja is an eMCee from the southern part of Sweden. He grew-up with Hip-Hop and started rappin' in 1997 when school mates asked him to join a jam after school. While he started to get interested in politics, he thought that Hip-hop was the perfect way to share some thoughts and so he took the name Menteroja (esp: "mente roja" = "red mind": eng) after getting kicked out of parties for talking politics.

In 2002 Menteroja released his demo CD "The Day" followed by his 12" vinyl debut "Rebellion Exercise" b/w "Indoor Metaphor". Since then his discography extended pretty fast with loads of tape and vinyl releases. Check out Menteroja's bandcamp and what you can expect is powerful rap on sample based beats - true boom bap!

His newest release is a collaboration with German producer AK420 who recently released his instrumental project "EXPEDITion Vol. 15: 420 Ways To Die But The Weed Ain't One" on Vinyl Digital. For AK420 it all began in 2002 when he played a drum kit for the first time. Since then he knew, that playing music was and will be his passion. Throughout the years he played for several metal bands. In 2015 influenced by 90’s golden era Hip-Hop, his goal was to create a unique style combining Jazz-driven samples with heavy hitting drums. Check out AK420's bandcamp.

  • Rebellion Exercise b/w Indoor Metaphor (12", 2002)
  • Still Breathing b/w Ho Chi Minh Style (7", 2003)

KingUnderground: KU-017ff ft. SRAW, Fredfades, Planet Asia, Vital

There are plenty of new releases on KingUnderground so let's have a look with whom the label collaborated in order to drop more and more wax.

KU-017 features beat maker SRAW aka Sun Raw from Sweden with 14 instrumentals produced in 2008-2009. The album title "Beat Week" was born in a time when producers shared his work via myspace. His album debut "Another SRAW Remix" dropped in 2010 but he also collaborated with our friends from Dusty Platter promoted here on SBS some time ago. Grab this LP on black color wax or silver shell cassette tape housed in picture sleeve.

KU-029 features beat maker Vital who raised in Potsdam, Germany as a child and later moved to Lithuania in 1991. He's a good friend of Boora, who has released on KingUnderground as well and who connected label and artist. The result is Vital's debut album "Piece Of Time" and 12 instrumental tracks on black wax or red shell cassette tape housed in picture sleeve.

KU-033 is a sweet 7" release featuring Sun Raw, Fredfades and Planet Asia limited to 300 copies. Since Sun Raw was introduced again above, Fredfades released already a lot on KU and Planet Asia is one of the most popular West Coast MCs I leave the snippets below with you and nuff said ...

B: Fredfades ft. Planet Asia, Was - Mobbin' For A Hobby

My special thanks goes to Dan at KingUnderground, Vital, Sun Raw, Fredfades and Planet Asia. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Redefinition: RDF-11x ft. Damu The Fudgemunk

Redefinition Records seems to release brand new stuff non-stop and to keep it straight I thought it makes sense to summarize some of the recent releases by Damu The Fudgemunk doing "solo" or collaborating with various lyricists.

Let's start with "Vignettes" (RDF-111), a 3LP with 15 instrumentals, available on white colored vinyl in picture sleeve or in various bundle deals.

The newest release is "Ears Hear Spears" (RDF-117), the collaboration project of MC Insight and producer Damu The Fudgemunk. After a well deserved break Insight is back on the scene, grab one of the limited white vinyl copies at Redef.

Chopped Herring: CHMALIK001 ft. Malik Turner

Originally from Fayetteville (NC), but long time resident NJ/NY MC & producer Malik Turner dropped his vinyl debut "No More 9-5" in 1994 on MPacked Sounds and it's today one of the typical mid 90's grails you can't find everywhere.

Malik is a member of the duo Mpacked Sounds with his long-time friend and DJ, Master Jam. Malik is also a group member and lead rapper for the "New Blackbyrds", a Jazz fusion group formed by the legendary trumpeter the late Dr. Donald Byrd; a sister project to the late Guru's "Jazzmatazz, A New Reality".

Dinked Records launches another jukebox 45 and is presenting it in a beautiful designed picture sleeve. "Hands High" features Brighton's DJ and producer Krafty Kuts and J5 MC Charli 2na.

Rugged: RRLP04 ft. DJ Low Cut

Low Cut dropped NY Minute four years ago, with his MPC he’s back to ring the bells and unsheathe the samples for "Dead End".

The starting point of Dead End’s production remains the 90’s boom-bap and far from his Parisian basement, Low Cut has rung phones in New York, Baltimore and Detroit, rounding up the faithful. He magnetized the hidden but sharp forces, and gained attendance of legends.

Heavy atmosphere, martial beats and street soul, Dead End is also the final episode of the projects initiated by Low Cut, based on the model of a producer inviting various MCs.

In future Low Cut is planning to replace his turntable needles, refresh his sample banks, and settle the BPMs of his productions on more abstract frequencies ... (really?).

2NX: 2NX007 ft. Soundsci

Most sample diggers will recognise a Boosey & Hawkes Recorded Music Library sleeve on their tours immediately ... however, the Cavendish Music archive, of which they are part, remains one of the least chartered non-commercial music catalogues among producers.

"Non-commercial" is no longer the case, thanks to veteran beatsmiths Jonny Cuba (Dynamic Syncopation) and Ollie Teeba (The Herbaliser), and their army of emcees. "My Boosey Weighs A Ton" is an album sampled wholly from the Cavendish archive. This makes a perfect follow up to 2011’s Soundsational LP on Ubiquity, for which Soundsci gained the blessing of Mike James Kirkland to sample his rich back catalogue.

Cavendish and Soundsci are two forces leading the way in building relationships between the sampler and the sampled. In 2014 Cavendish Music welcomed a select group of five producers into their vinyl archive. Soundsci’s Jonny Cuba was one of the lucky few, and Soundsci were one of 25 artists who sampled and remixed the material for WhoSampled’s first ‘Samplethon’.

A: My Boosey Weighs A Ton
A: Hunger Pains
A: Ole Saying Goes
A: Tug Of War
A: Drugs, Guns & Economics

B: Relationship
B: Chimichunga
B: Dust & Decay

Bonus: DG&E Remix (digital only)

My special thanks goes to 2NX, Ollie Teeba, Jonny Cuba and the whole Soundsci. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

AAF: AAF-003 ft. DJ Format & Abdominal

For 14 years, producer DJ Format and rapper Abdominal have been entertaining crowds from Toronto to the UK. 2017 they boast with their new album "Still Hungry".

Both got features on each other’s solo records but "Still Hungry" is their first collaboration album, funky, up-tempo and slick beats coupled with dope rhymes.

Even if I have not read about how many copies have been pressed the strong fan base of both as well as the music quality both deliver again this will make the album sell quickly. Listen to the first few tracks and you'll not hesitate to buy immediately.

A: Appetizer

Various: Interview With Doc TMK

I promised two new interviews on the blogspot and I hope you enjoyed the one with Specifik from B-Line Recordings. Today I like to welcome producer Doc TMK on Stitch By Stitch blogspot.

SBS: Fab, welcome on Stitch By Stitch. We have seen lots of new releases from you and DJ Suspect recently so I am very pleased to have you here for a short interview. Please introduce yourself and tell us about your connection to DJ Suspect.

Doc TMK: So in 2008, I saw DJ Suspect mix for the first time at a party organized as part of a birthday of the Zulu Nation, he mixed with DJ Revolution and Bambaataa. In the queue, before entering the box, I met Ludo, the friend of DJ Moar, who distributed flyers, followed a discussion with Ludo, who told me about the label Trad Vibe, DJ Moar and Leo (Suspect) who was signed on the label. A little later I went to parties organized by Moar and then I sympathized with Suspect. The idea of collaborating together did not come to us before 2012.

SBS: On Facebook I saw your statement "Doc TMK is a 45 maniac" and indeed almost all of your latest releases came on 7" vinyl. Is 7" your preferred format?

Doc TMK: Let's say this is the most economical format to release two titles today, if you want to do that well, in the Hip Hop Game. Maniac, because Suspect and I have put a lot on it and in a few years we have released a number of them. As a "digger", I have a collection of beatmakers, a lot of LPs of all styles of music that I use for sampling. For deejays, the 7 inch is very effective, if you want to do without a Serato. The crew 45 Live of which Suspect demonstrates well, you play your bangers, oldies or novelties, with a little technique you can return a set. Suspect, Format, and others do that well. My collection is more focused on LP as I sample and a LP bought at random will offer you always more opportunities to find a loop than a 45. But the 7 inch has become the perfect format for self-production, release records and be played in the underground Rap culture.

SBS: We see Doc TMK collaborating with many different labels like Dinked/Random Rap, Dusty Platter, Radio Krimi or Luhna. How did it came to those collaborations?

Doc TMK: Luhna is my label. The other connections were made in the course of time, Leo (Suspect) contributed a lot, it is a chance to have released several discs even if things have not always been ideal. Radio Krimi ... Let's say that I got a little bit of a stirrup at Seb (DJ Krimi) so that it is organized in label, with a first very boom bap 90s. Since DJ Krimi is perfecting himself as a producer and he is doing really well.

SBS: From an MC point of view you collaborated a lot with Emskee from The Good People but also with Finsta or Andy Cooper. Were those features initiated by yourself or the labels you work with and with whom would you like to collaborate in the future?

Doc TMK: Connections can come from everywhere, emcees can come from different schools, just like the singers for that matter, from different towns. Only importance, know how to ask. No illegitimate children.

SBS: What can we expect from you next, any exclusive hints for us on Stitch By Stitch?
Doc TMK: My album "Jus Do !T" that we push deeply with DJ Krimi is for 2017. We have invested a lot in it.

SBS: Fab, thank you very much. I am sure everyone here has supported at least one of your release projects and if not I can only recommend to follow this link and grab as many of your releases as possible even if some are pressed in limited quantities. Take care and let's keep in touch. Also thanks to Seb from Radio Krimi for supporting this interview!

Doc TMK: Thx Mytee, Peace my man! One Love ... and don't forget "Jus Do !t" LP (2017 - Radio Krimi Records)

With over 7,000 vinyl records in his arsenal, New Jersey based Hip-Hop producer "Ill Tal" has been churning out beats since 1997. Utilizing the same techniques used by the legends of the golden era, Ill Tal has managed to capture the sound that so many hip-hop fans miss.

This new self-released 7" featuring vocals by DeVillins and Prodigy of Mobb Deep comes exclusive via bandcamp and it's very likely that less than 100 copies are available for purchase. However make sure you listen and/or order quickly.

Chopped Herring: CHTABB001 ft. Big Tabb

This project started with Tabb licensing the "Brothers in Da Hood" grail, but Chopped Herring was looking for more tracks to drop a solid album or EP release and with the help of many diggers they got hands on the early Big Tabb aka Jakk Frost demos.

Very much reminiscent of a "classic '94" album with production from Philly producer MG aka Mentally Gifted. If you cannot remember when you came across Big Tabb, he released a 12" single with two tracks plus remix in 1996.

A1: Laid Back
A2: Groove Wit It
A3: Like Sistas & Brothas
A4: Crazy 4 A Quarter
A5: Brothers In The Hood
B1: Big Man For Hire
B2: Nuff Respect
B3: Who's Wreckin Da Mic
B4: Commercialized Music
B5: High School Daze

All tracks produced by MG

The LP is limited to 350 copies - the first 120 copies come on silver, white & orange mixed coloured vinyl - the remaining 230 are on traditional black wax.

My special thanks goes to Chopped Herring and Big Tabb. All copyrights reserved, posted for promotion use only.

Chopped Herring: CHB3NEF01 ft. Beneficence

Originally recorded in 1991, released in 1994, the "Suckas Brevity/Hostile Lifestyle" 12" by New Jersey MC & producer Beneficence is what you'll link to this new Chopped Herring release.

Only 100 copies were ever pressed on indie label Big House Records, so Chopped Herring & Beneficence's label Ill Adrenaline thought it is time to repress the 12" and add some previously unreleased Beneficence boom-bap from the 90's and name it the "Contents Under Pressure EP".

A1: Contents Under Pressure
A2: Suckas Brevity
A3: Hostile Lifestyle
A4: Hostile Lifestyle (Instrumental)

MC 3-2 went on to sign a deal with Rap-A-Lot and became part of The Convicts with partner Big Mike in 1991, Blac Monks in 1994 and he was also a member of the Screwed Up Click.

Rare and high on demand by collectors is the "Come Out To Play Again" by Washington's 5 Bros With Ugly Clothes. Reason enough to re-press the EP that was originally released on Eloh Bro Records in 1994.

But not enough, the EP features 3 additional tracks, previously unreleased that round up the EP and makes it another collectors item.

Their 1998 release "Believe In The Five" is also worth a listen, lets hope Dope Folks gives it a repress in the future and so completes all our collection with 5 Bros discography.
